ANU Museum of the Jewish People:  Special Wartime Programing, with CEO Dan Tadmor

ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question:  Why are ANU’s virtual activities only transmitted live and not recorded?

ANU-Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv was originally known as Beit Hatfutsot, the Museum of the Jewish Diaspora, when it opened in 1978.  The name was later changed and the Museum reopened in 2021, after undergoing a complete renovation, both physically and conceptually.  We interviewed Assaf Gamzou, the Director of Museum Education at that time, and you can listen to that program here.

In these difficult times, ANU is collaborating in several ways.  During the first weeks of the war on Hamas the Museum was closed, but it has now reopened under the heading Your Safe Escape.

They are offering free entrance to their core exhibition spanning 3 floors, the synagogue hall and the exhibit that they consider to be mostly important these stressful times – their famous children’s gallery “Heroes”. They are also offering an extensive program of virtual tours, lectures and workshops in Hebrew, English and Russian.

In addition, ANU is joining hands with the Hostage and Missing Families Forum in a swift and urgent call to demand the immediate release of the more than 200 Israeli hostages being held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza.  The video projection on the front of ANU – Museum of the Jewish People building in Tel Aviv includes pictures of the hostages taken along with artists’ works reflecting displacement, discrimination and distress. ANU is also inviting all of you to join them in solidarity on behalf of the hostages and their families.  If you or your organization wish to join this effort, you can contact them at the email addresses on this page.

This week we are speaking with Dan Tadmor, the CEO of ANU-Museum of the Jewish People about the special programs that the Museum is offering now and also about FOODISH, their new culinary wing. (You can subscribe to the FOODISH Newsletter here.)
