Bendigamos: A New Jewish Community in Amsterdam

ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: In what imaginative and unconventional ways does Bendigamos attract new people to its community?

Bendigamos is the youngest and fastest growing Jewish community in the Netherlands. It’s a warm and welcoming community, which offers everyone the opportunity to practice Judaism in their own way. The community was founded in 2015 by Nachshon Rodrigues Pereira, a member of Amsterdam’s long-established, but dwindling, Portuguese Jewish community.   Bendigamos is an independent organization that aims to make Judaism more accessible and to make more Jews feel at home in the Jewish community. The Shabbat services at Bendigamos are Orthodox and follow the ancient Amsterdam-Portuguese rite and everyone is equally welcome, regardless of what they know about Judaism or how they practice it.

In this program we are speaking with Nachshon about the Portuguese-Jewish heritage in Amsterdam and this dynamic new community.

Bendigamos is registered in the Netherlands as an official religious organization. In the United States donations are tax-deductible through a 501c3 that they work with.  You can help support this young Jewish community by clicking on one of the following links:
