Bet-El: Madrid’s Conservative Community, with Mario Stofenmacher
ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: What does Bet-El’s new program LAMED consist of, and who is teaching it?
Mario Stofenmacher is one of the founders of Bet-El, Madrid’s Conservative (or Masorti) Jewish community, and he’s in charge of its education department and religious affairs. On a program we did ten years ago, he told us about Bet-El, how it was founded and some of their activities. This week we are speaking with him about how the community has evolved, and their exciting new project: they have undertaken the first writing of a Sefer Torah to take place in Spain in over 500 years.
Learn more about the new Sefer Torah and participate in the project here. (This page is in English.)
