ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: What importance do visual arts and music have in Danila Botha’s work?
Danila Botha is a Canadian fiction writer based in Toronto. She was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and has also lived in Israel, and in Nova Scotia. She is the critically acclaimed author of five books, including the short story collections Got No Secrets and the Trillium Book Award, Vine Awards, and ReLit Awards finalist For All the Men (and Some of the Women) I’ve Known.
Her new collection, Things that Cause Inappropriate Happiness, was published by Guernica Editions in April 2024. Stories from it have appeared in Canadian, American and European literary journals, including Jewish Fiction.net, Bristol Noir and the Berlin Review, among others.
Her award winning novel Too Much on the Inside was published in 2015. It was optioned for film by Pelee Entertainment in 2023. Her new novel, A Place for People Like Us, will be published in 2025. She is currently writing and illustrating her first graphic novel, and working on a new collection of short fiction.
