Jewish History in Poland, with Amelia Serraller

Jewish History in Poland, with Amelia Serraller

ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: In what year were Jews first given political rights by the Polish king?

Amelia Serraller studied Slavic Philology at the Complutense University in Madrid, where she received her Doctorate Cum Laude in 2015.  She has worked as a translator and interpreter from Polish, Russian, English and Catalan into Spanish, and has taught Spanish Language and Culture at the University of Wroclaw in Poland.   She has participated in various courses and seminars and published numerous articles on Spanish and Polish literature and history.

Dr. Serraller has also written a number of articles and given lectures on Jewish history and culture in Poland, including several about the little-known Sephardic minority, and Jewish participation in the 1863 uprising against Russian occupation.

This week she will give us an overview of this history, and next week she will tell us about three important Jewish religious and intellectual movements that took root in Poland.
