ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: What is the average age of members of the Jewish community in present-day Sarajevo?
Jonna Rock was born in 1980 and completed her studies in Slavonic Studies at Uppsala University in 2014, where her interest centered on identity formation and linguistic sociology. She is currently a doctoral student at Humboldt University in Berlin, where her research is focusing on Intergenerational Memory, Language and Jewish Identification of the Sarajevo Sephardim. She examines in particular the question of the vitality of European Jewry after the Shoah and the intergenerational dialogue between Sephardim of several generations in Sarajevo.
Her research has led her to direct a documentary film, Jewish History in Sarajevo, which she recently presented in Madrid at the Centro Sefarad-Israel. After the screening, she spoke with us about the film and her research.
