Sar-El: Volunteers for Israel, with CEO Keren Dahan
ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: About what percentage of Sar-El volunteers are not Jewish?
Over 40 years ago, Sar-El–The National Project for Volunteers for Israel, was founded as a non-profit, non-political organization (“Sar-El” is the Hebrew acronym meaning “Service for Israel”). Sar-El supporters come from within Israel and around the world to contribute to the security of the State of Israel by assisting on IDF bases in a logistical support role. Last November we did a program with Sarah Wiek, a volunteer from Germany who had recently returned from a two-week stint volunteering with Sar-El. That interview prompted us to contact the organization, and five months into the Israel-Hamas war we spoke with Keren Dahan, Sar-El’s Chief Executive Director. This week we are bringing you that interview.
You can read more about the history, purpose and goals of Sar-El, and sign up to volunteer, by going to their website.
