Tamar Sternthal, of CAMERA in Israel, with Pascal Roy
ENGLISH CORNER – Tamar Sternthal is the director in Israel of the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA). She gives us an insight on the work she and her team perform in order to promote accurate and balanced coverage of Israel and the Middle East. The three working languages are English, Spanish and Hebrew, covering a wide range of media outlets in the world, from the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times to Haaretz, including wire services such as AFP, Reuters and Associated Press. The members of her team directly contact reporters, editors, producers and publishers concerning distorted or inaccurate coverage, offering factual information to refute errors. She also insists on the importance to educate news consumers about Middle East issues and the role of the media, as distorted news coverage that misleads the public can be detrimental to sound policymaking.
