ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: How many people attended the BZD’s first virtual event last year, and how many are attending now?
The Baltimore Zionist District (BZD) uses its direct Israeli connection as a home base for the creation of cultural and political programs and educational activities which deal with all aspects of Zionism and modern Israeli life. Its declared mission is “To foster knowledge and understanding of the State of Israel, to facilitate dialogue, to raise awareness, to advocate for a secure future for Israel and nurture the bonds between our local community and Israel.”
Caren Leven is the Executive Director of the BZD. She was born in Haifa and grew up in Baltimore, where she graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and a minor in Marketing. Before joining the BZD she worked with other Jewish organizations, specializing in outreach and other communal work.
This week we are speaking with Caren about the BZD; how the organization has adapted to the pandemic; and its many activities, most of which are available online and can be accessed throughout the world.
