The Matzevah Foundation: Restoring Jewish Cemeteries in Poland, with Dr. Steven Reece
ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: How many projects and volunteers has the Matzevah Foundation had so far?
The Matzevah Foundation is a small nonprofit organization that exists to educate the public about the Shoah, commemorate forgotten mass grave sites of Jewish victims of the Shoah, and care for and restore Poland’s Jewish cemeteries. It conducts its mission in cooperation with numerous Jewish descendants and both public and private Jewish and non-Jewish organizations who wish to speak to the injustice of the Shoah by preserving the Jewish heritage of Poland. The reconciliation process embraces the transformation of perspectives across a broad array of viewpoints among Jews, non-Jews, and Christians. The Matzevah Foundation functions as a third party, a catalyst, and a mediator, enabling Jews and Christians to interact, facilitating dialogue, healing, and the process of reconciliation. Dr. Steven Reece is an American Baptist minister who founded TMF and is its President and CEO. In this program he tells us about the Foundation, how he came to create the project, and how it has developed. (You can read his doctoral dissertation here.)
