ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: Where did Josiah DuBois work and what brought him into contact with what was happening in Nazi Germany?
This week we are bringing you a new graphic novel, Whistleblowers, which tells the true stories of four heroes who risked their careers–or their lives–to expose the truth about the unfolding Holocaust in the 1930s and 40s. The book is written by Rafael Medoff and illustrated by Dean Motter.
Dr. Rafael Medoff is a professor of Jewish history and founding director of the David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies. We recently spoke with him about the Institute, which focuses on America’s response to Nazism and the Holocaust. He is the author of over twenty books on the Holocaust and Jewish history and was the co-creator and lead writer for the Disney Educational Productions animated series They Spoke Out: American Voices Against the Holocaust. He has also authored Holocaust-related comic strips for various publications.
Dean Motter is an award-winning art director, designer, illustrator and writer in the entertainment and publishing industries. Best known for the 1980s comics sensation Mister X, he has written and illustrated a number of graphic novels. Originally from Canada, in 1990 Dean relocated to New York, where he became the Creative Services Art Director at Time Warner/DC Comics. He currently lives in Georgia where, under the Futura Novelty Co. banner, he continues to create graphic works in the entertainment, book publishing and comic book industries.
This week Rafael is speaking with us about Whistleblowers and the courageous heroes who inspired it.
