Yitzhak Attias, Israeli Musician
ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: What is the meaning of the Hebrew word “Reshimu”?
Yitzhak Attias is a percussionist and songwriter originally from Gibraltar, a British colony in the south of Spain. Having grown up on the Mediterranean, Yitzhak’s music has African, Latin and Flamenco influences, and draws inspiration from a Torah-based spiritual path.
Gather the Sparks, which is his first CD, received acclaim for its innovative fusion of Latin and Jewish content. Azamer is a video that he produced with the collaboration of flamenco musicians. His latest CD, Reshimu, is a musical journey combining Yitzhak’s memories of Gibraltar, his continual awe of natural landscapes, and his spiritual yearnings and wanderings.
Currently Yitzhak performs with his wife, flutist Tamar Attias, in a performance/workshop they developed called The Reshimu Musical Experience. Using flutes and percussion instruments from around the world, they explore the wonders of the Divine in creation.
